How to do a detailing work for your car

The professional detailer understands that detailing is both “art and science.” The “science” aspect of a detailing work includes such concrete elements as chemicals, equipment, knowledge of vehicle surfaces, industry standards, and customer requirements. The “art” of detailing is the activity of combining these elements into procedures that work for each specific situation.
For a new car owner, you may wonder what is car detailing. Detailing means just as the name implies, focusing on and cleaning the tiny details of your car to take it from “clean” to “sparkling like new.” It includes the car interior detailing and exterior detailing.
There is an old saying in China which says “you cannot make bricks without straw”, so first of all, we’ll go through with the necessary implements and cleaning products besides the normal car-washing tools. Here we’ll give you a suggestion of listed tools for your consideration:
Vacuum cleaner
Variety of rags – include terry cloth towels and thin cotton rags for finer surfaces.
Various sizes of small brushes – try toothbrushes or paintbrushes.
Q-tips and cotton swabs.
Plastic spray bottles.

Then you can start with the detailing process. We’ll begin with interior detailing first.
1. Remove floor mats and vacuum the whole interior area with the vacuum cleaner. The vacuum cleaner should be for wet and dry surfaces and should have multiple attachments, preferably a couple for getting into tiny areas. It is a good habit to start from the top and work your way down.
2. Clean carpet or upholstery stains with foam cleaner and rub it in with a damp cloth or sponge.
3. Wash rubber floor mats and allow it to dry.
4. Use canned air and detailing brushes to get out accumulated dust from the buttons and crevices on the dashboard and interior doors.
5. Wipe hard interior surfaces with a mild all-purpose cleaner.
6. Clear car air vent grilles with detailing brushes.
7. Clean your car seats. Different seats have different cleaning methods. For instance, car seats with nylon or other cloth texture can be shampooed with a wet-vac extraction machine.
8. If you feel necessary, condition your leather seats. It’ll give the leather an appealing look.
9. Spray glass cleaner on windows and mirrors and wipe them clean.
Of course, you can add extra aspects if you feel necessary as long as you apply the right methods. Then we’ll move on to the exterior detailing. Here are the steps:
1. Brush the wheel rims clean with a wheel brush. You can use wheel cleaner or degreaser to get rid of the accumulated grime and grease.
2. Wash the tires with the appropriate tire cleaner.
3. Dress up non-metal areas under the hood with vinyl/rubber protectant. Allow it to soak in then wipe it off for a glossy look.
4. Clean your car’s exterior with car wash soap and deep-pile terrycloth microfiber towels and then wash it.
5. Clean the outside windows and mirrors with glass cleaner.
While it may seem like a lot of work, it’s a good idea to detail your car every few months. It will keep your car’s surfaces and finishes healthy and protected, and will actually extend the life of your car. In addition, who doesn’t love driving around in a fresh, spotless vehicle?
